Addicted to Google?

I personally do not believe that people are addicted to Google. Google is a resource and a very useful one at that. Rarely do you hear of someone being addicted to something that is both helpful and potentially educational as something that is bad. People do use Google quite a bit but I would say that it is more often than not to use as a tool to answer a question that we have, and why limit that ability? As for privacy concerns I think that is just something people will have to learn to accept in today's day and age. Having cookies within webpages to gather information on the visitors of the websites is just a tool that businesses/sites use for their own benefit with advertisements and material.

  1. Yes, well, it is only an addiction if it causes you harm, as one of your classmates, Jared, argued. Still I think the privacy concerns raised by Google's monitoring of our behavior online go beyond those associated with, say, the cookies Amazon or Netflix leaves in our computers. Google is using our search behavior and location and other information to construct elaborate profiles of us. If it was the CIA doing the same thing, we'd be protesting at the top of our lungs. That's just my 2 cents...
